Free Public Shower, 2010
A working free shower with hot water is supplied by the SPACE gallery in Pittsburgh. Copper plumbing. and wood was sourced from floor joists of abandoned homes in Braddock, PA.
Free Public Shower allows one to perform the normally private ablution of cleaning oneself within the sacrosanct space of the art gallery. Here visitors are invited to be the main figurative element in the gallery. For exhibitionists, homeless, or just those in need of a shower they are free to use this facility. This work highlights our bodily entanglement within the politics of space.
