Space Vacuum, 2008 A large remotely controlled faux vacuum cleaner is operated by video feed, joystick, and a button. The public downstairs operates the sculpture upstairs. A secondary hidden consul is operated by gallery staff. The robotic sculpture nearly fills the undersized installation space. Those who venture inside the space are potentially pinned against the wall. The vacuum cleaner generates dust by grinding away at the walls, floors, and itself. If the button is depressed fans blow the dirt around the room and onto the viewer. Styrofoam, wood, motors, lights, fans, microcontroller, video camera, monitors |
